Dr. Margo Greenwood has been working with the Canadian Pediatric Surgery Network on a CIHR-funded project to conduct a secondary analysis of data from a national pediatric surgical database (May 2006-June 2013) to look at the health outcomes of birth defects in Canada. Birth defects are one of the leading causes of infant mortality in developed nations. This collaborative effort has resulted in the recent publication of an article in the Pediatric Surgery International journal. The article investigates and compares individual and community maternal risk factors of gastroshisis (GS) with those of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a control group.
