A journey of partnership: Transforming health care services delivery with First Nations in northern BC

This paper describes the health system transformation, which has been occurring in the Northern Health region of British Columbia resulting from a new relationship between the federal and provincial governments and First Nations. This new relationship stemmed from the 2005 Transformative Change Accord, the foundation for the Tripartite First Nations Health Plan and eventual First Nations Health Council, which ensures First Nations responsibility over health planning and administration, as well as the design, delivery and accountability over health service delivery for First Nations in BC. The paper highlights the role of partnerships and collaborations in transforming the ways in which health services are delivered to First Nations and Indigenous peoples in northern BC.
